The Lifestyle Herbalists Podcast--A healthy dose of happiness

Welcome to The Lifestyle Herbalist Podcast.

We are Dabney Vaccaro, a dental hygienist, herbalist, and wellness coach, and Sabrina Cooper, a dental hygienist, herbalist, mindful eating coach.  We are so glad you're here.

For years, we've have worked with people who were struggling with things like fatigue, poor sleep, digestive issues, weight challenges, chronic stress, and oral health concerns. What we have learned is that these issues rarely exist in isolation. The body is always communicating with us, and often the mouth is one of the first places those messages show up.

That's why this podcast exists.

Here, we'll explore the fascinating connections between oral health, mineral balance, herbal medicine, nutrition, and whole-body wellness. We'll talk about how everyday habits influence our health, how herbs can support the body's natural healing processes, and why addressing root causes often leads to better outcomes than simply chasing symptoms.

Our goal isn't to give you all the answers. It's to help you ask better questions, become more connected to your body, and discover practical tools that support your health in a sustainable way.

Whether you're a health professional, an herbal enthusiast, or someone simply looking to feel better, you're welcome here.

Are seasonal allergies making you miserable? Instead of reaching for over-the-counter medications, why not turn to nature’s pharmacy? In this episode, we’ll explore the powerful herbal remedies that can help you breathe easier, reduce inflammation, and tackle those pesky allergy symptoms head-on.
Join me, Dabney Vaccaro, herbalist and dental hygienist, as we dive into the world of herbs. We will explore six incredible plants that have been used for centuries to soothe allergies and support respiratory health.
Goldenrod: Often mistaken for ragweed, goldenrod is a powerhouse for reducing inflammation and supporting the immune system.  Stinging Nettle: A natural antihistamine that can help reduce sneezing, itching, and congestion.  Mullein: Known as “nature’s respiratory tonic,” mullein soothes irritated mucous membranes and supports lung health.  Elderflower: A gentle yet effective herb for reducing sinus pressure and calming allergic reactions.  Wild Cherry Bark: A go-to for dry, irritating coughs and respiratory discomfort.  Ground Ivy: A lesser-known herb that can help clear congestion and support lymphatic drainage.

In this episode of The Lifestyle Herbalists, Dabney invites you to welcome the vibrant energy of spring and dive into the wisdom of two ancient healing systems: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda. Together, we explore how these traditions guide us to align with the rhythms of the season, fostering renewal, balance, and vitality.
Spring is a time of rebirth, growth, and transformation—a perfect opportunity to shed the heaviness of winter and embrace fresh beginnings. In TCM, spring is associated with the Wood element, which governs the liver and gallbladder meridians. The Wood element embodies qualities of flexibility, vision, and upward movement, much like the sprouting of new plants. We discuss how to support the liver’s role in detoxification and emotional flow, offering practical tips like incorporating sour flavors, gentle movement, and stress-reducing practices to harmonize Wood energy.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, spring is the season of Kapha, the dosha characterized by earth and water elements. As the snow melts and the earth softens, Kapha’s heavy, moist qualities can manifest as sluggishness, congestion, or lethargy in the body and mind. We explore how to balance Kapha through invigorating practices, such as dry brushing, vigorous exercise, and a diet rich in pungent, bitter, and astringent flavors. Herbs like ginger, turmeric, and tulsi can also help ignite digestive fire and clear stagnation.
Throughout the episode, we draw parallels between TCM and Ayurveda, highlighting their shared emphasis on living in harmony with nature’s cycles. Whether it’s through mindful nutrition, seasonal rituals, or energetic practices, this episode offers actionable insights to help you thrive during spring and support the liver.
